Dr. Vyas Sekar

Chief Scientist

Dr. Vyas Sekar leads the research, design, and implementation of Conviva's Operational Data Platform, bringing cutting-edge systems research directly into production environments. He is also the Tan Family Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

He is a leading expert in Time-State technology, which enables continuous modeling of real-world systems by capturing sequence, timing, and cause-and-effect — capabilities that traditional SQL-based analytics cannot provide. This foundation allows Conviva to analyze complex, dynamic behavior as it unfolds, connecting system performance and experience directly to outcomes.

His research has been widely recognized with top honors, including the ACM SIGCOMM Test of Time Award, the NSA Science of Security Prize, the Internet Research Task Force Applied Networking Research Award, the Intel Outstanding Researcher Award, and multiple best paper awards at leading academic conferences. He has also co-authored influential research with Conviva co-founders Drs. Hui Zhang and Ion Stoica.
